Sandoval departs Cordoba despite survival

Cordoba have confirmed Coach Jose Ramon Sandoval has departed the club despite sparking a remarkable run of form to stave off relegation.

The 50-year-old guided the Andalusian side – whose last stint in La Liga was the 2014/15 season – to 32 points from their final 16 league games to beat the drop.

Sandoval had also recently held the managerial job at Rayo Vallecano in the first half of the 2016/17 season – his second stint at the club.

The Madrid-native has also had stints in charge of Sporting Gijon and Granada, from whom he was dismissed in February 2016.

When Sandoval took the reins at Cordoba, they were lying third from bottom in the standings and 11 points from safety after 26 matches.
