Numancia will take on Real Valladolid in the Segunda playoff Final, with heartbreak for Real Zaragoza and Sporting Gijon.
Numancia’s semi-final with Zaragoza was finely poised at 1-1, but Pape Diamanka’s injury-time finish on Saturday dragged Los Rojillos through to the two-legged showpiece.
A day later, Valladolid had the easier task of preserving a 3-1 lead against Sporting, and they denied the Asturians a shot at a quick return to La Liga with a 2-1 victory at El Molinon.
The first leg of the Final will be played at Numancia’s home of Los Pajaritos on Wednesday, before the return fixture at Valladolid’s Jose Zorrilla ground three days later.
The former have been away from the top flight for four seasons, while the latter have been out of sight since 2009.
