Rubi promises ‘brave’ Espanyol

New Espanyol Coach Rubi has pledged he will make his team play ‘with courage and ambition’ and find the right balance between defence and attack.

The 48-year-old guided Huesca to a historic promotion to the top flight this season but has since accepted the role at the Catalan club, left vacant following Quique Sanchez Flores’s departure in April.

“I demand my team plays with courage,” Rubi told reporters, as cited by Europa Press.

“We want to have a brave team, one who can combine both attack and defence, to be cohesive in play and to take calculated risks.

“This team has become renowned the past two seasons for being defensively solid – I want to continue that of course but we must score more goals.

“We must firstly make our players believe in what we do but we want to give the fans a team to be proud of, so that they can buy into our methods.

“I really enjoyed my time at Huesca and I am grateful to them, but this was a job I had to accept.”
