Antoine Griezmann has informed a number of his close friends that he has decided to stay at Atletico Madrid this summer, say reports in Spain.
The Frenchman has yet to make public his decision to reject the advances of Barcelona and remain in the Spanish capital, but ABC report this is expected to be clarified soon.
The 27-year-old will improve his contract at Los Rojiblancos but it is stressed this is not the primary factor behind the deal, and he believes he can continue to improve at the club.
The recent triumph in the Europa League is said to have reinforced the idea that Atletico can challenge for both the Champions League and La Liga titles next season.
Griezmann confirmed after Friday night’s friendly against Italy that he will confirm his future decision ahead of this summer’s World Cup and it appears increasingly likely he will remain with Diego Simeone’s side.
