Official: Sevilla appoint Machin

Sevilla have officially appointed former Girona boss Pablo Machin as their new Coach on a two-year contract.

Machin’s arrival completes a new-look managerial team, with Joaquin Caparros also being promoted to sporting director.

“With his characteristic 3-5-2 system and noted use of set-pieces, Machin has managed to create a well-defined style, which he will now try to build on with the weapons of a team in Europe, designed to fight at the highest levels,” read the club’s appraisal of their new man at the helm.

The 43-year-old began his playing career with hometown club Numancia but was forced to retire aged just 23 with a serious knee injury.

He went on to coach their youth and B teams, before serving time as an assistant and eventually taking the reins of Los Rojillos’ first team, keeping them in Segunda for two seasons.

Machin subsequently moved on to Girona in March 2014, leading them to the playoffs a year later and ultimately La Liga in his third full campaign.

The Soria native won many admirers in 2017-18, having guided the Catalans to 10th in their first-ever top-flight season.
