Del Bosque surprised at ZZ success

Former Real Madrid Coach Vicente Del Bosque admits he did not envisage Zinedine Zidane launching a career in coaching.

The Frenchman, now at the helm at the Bernabeu, starred under the future Spain boss in Madrid between 2001 and 2003.

“At that time, I did not believe he would turn into a Head Coach after starring as a player,” Del Bosque told reporters.

“Of course he was a player who had great, unlimited talent and while he struggled initially to adapt to Spanish football, in the end he settled in very well and excelled.

“He came from Italian football, which was more physical, but he was also very technical.

“We extracted the best from him and he definitely benefitted from those players around him such as Roberto Carlos, Luis Figo, Raul…

“He enjoyed Madrid, playing for this club and with these teammates, even more so than with Juve.”
