Cazorla leaving Arsenal, trial with Villarreal

Playmaker Santi Cazorla will officially leave Arsenal this summer and is expected to join-up with Villarreal on a trial basis.

The former Spain international, who previously played for the Yellow Submarine, made 180 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 29 goals, since joining from Malaga in 2012.

Cazorla has two FA Cup winners' medals from his time with Arsenal and scored in their 3-2 cup final win over Hull at Wembley in 2014 while his last match was a 6-0 win over Ludogorets on 19 October 2016.

The 33-year-old has sat out over 18 months of action after suffering an Achilles tendon injury in a Champions League match and revealed in November how doctors had told him he would be lucky to walk again.

However, Canal+ journalist Monica Marchante revealed during Saturday’s draw with Real Madrid, whilst standing alongside Villarreal official Marcos Senna, that the midfielder – who is out of contract this summer – will return to his former club this summer.

“It has not been confirmed by the club yet, but it is all but done,” Marchante told the TV audience.

“He will spend preseason at the club, here at Villarreal.”
