Muniz set for dual Malaga roles

Juan Ramon Muniz is set to become new the Malaga boss and also take on the role of director of football.

The 49-year-old, who has already taken charge of the Costa del Sol outfit twice in the past, is favourite replace Jose Gonzalez following the club’s relegation to La Segunda.

According to Diario Sur, Muniz has demanded written assurances from Malaga owner Sheikh Abdullah Al-Thani that there will be no interference in team affairs as Los Blanquiazules look to bounce back at the first attempt.

Current director of football Mario Husillos has already tendered his resignation – the terms of his departure are still to be decided – after Al-Thani vetoed his choice of Lucas Alcaraz for the Malaga bench.

Muniz started his coaching career with Marbella, going on to become assistant to Juande Ramos at Malaga in 2003, before subsequent spells as Head Coach with Malaga (twice), Racing Santander, Dnipro and Alcorcon.
