Mourinho rules out Ronaldo return

Jose Mourinho says he has all but ruled out the possibility of Cristiano Ronaldo ever returning to Old Trafford.

Ronaldo left the Red Devils for Real Madrid in 2009 and has been the subject of speculation ever since that he would one day go back to England.

However, United boss Mourinho believes that at 33 years-of-age the Portuguese star would only go to the United States or a similar league as he winds down his career.

“I don’t think Real Madrid can sell him, it is prohibited, “Mourinho told Portuguese newspaper Record.

“He has to stay until the moment they say he can go and play one year in America or anywhere else he wants to enjoy. It’s a closed door.”

Although United will not push to re-sign Ronaldo, even Mourinho confessed it would be hard to turn the opportunity down should he receive any encouragement over a possible deal.

“Everyone knows his history in Manchester, the passion they have for him, and there are players in the world who, when they become available, you can’t say no.”
