Pep Guardiola has signed a contract extension at Manchester City that will keep him at the club until 2021.
The 47-year-old steered City to the Premier League title last term, amassing a record 100 points, and the extension means his new deal is the longest commitment the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has made to a club in his coaching career.
“I’m so happy and excited and it’s a pleasure to work here,” Guardiola is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
“I enjoy working with these players every day and we’ll try to do our best together over the next few years. As a manager, you have to have a good feeling to be with the players – and I feel good.
“I’ll focus on the desire of my players to become better every day and that’s what I will try to do – improve on the pitch and improve the players.
“We have a young squad with an average age of 23 and we want to keep moving forward and maintain the levels we’ve achieved this season.”
City claimed 32 wins and scored 106 goals on their way to the Premier League title last term, both Premier League records, and Pep had earlier hinted to ESPN Brazil that he wanted more of the same and is still learning about the English game.
“There is always more. You may think there isn’t but the players you coach are responsible for new ways of thinking and insights.
“Sometimes you discover things you previously didn’t know, maybe putting two players together and giving you good midfield movement – something like that.
“When I left Barcelona I thought my way to revolutionise things had ended – but it hasn’t,” he enthused.
