Andres Iniesta has revealed that he would like to return to Barcelona one day as a Coach and spoken of his past at the club.
The 34-year-old gave an exclusive interview to Onda Cero’s El Transistor programme in which he also commented on his reasons for bowing out after the final game of the season this weekend.
“I hope in the future I can come back to Barcelona because this is my home and I’ve been really happy here. I’m starting to get the feeling I want to be a Coach, but I still want to enjoy football for many years,” said Iniesta.
“When I arrived at this club my parents were very brave to leave me at La Masia when I was still a young boy. My father changed his mind, but my mother decided that I had to stay. We had the same life as any child in which we went to college in the mornings and studied in the afternoon.
“I’ve always had some unique moments in the Camp Nou. When I was a ball boy they put me in a corner and I had a lot of fun.
“But Van Gaal was the one who gave me my debut. Saviola tried to score, didn’t, and I got there myself and scored.”
Iniesta then explained why he was leaving what has been the only club in the whole of his professional career, and also about his future.
“I’m going because I think it is the right time and I don’t think I can give any more than I have given already.
“I’m aware of what this club demands so I’ve decided to step aside and I’d like to leave like that, after a great season, winning trophies and without being uncomfortable in the team. I wish I could last 10 more years but that would not be possible.
“China and Japan are two scenarios to think about and I’ll need to get the balance right. There is a situation that is more or less decided but everything will not be sorted out until next week.
“I want to resolve things before the World Cup but my leaving here does not mean I’m hanging up my boots.
“I’m going to play football for a few more years,” he concluded.
