Simeone makes it 26-0 vs Getafe

Diego Simeone made it 26-0 against Getafe after Atletico Madrid came away from their mini-derby in the capital with a 1-0 win on Saturday.

Koke’s eighth-minute strike was enough to keep Atleti second in La Liga, three points clear of arch-rivals Real Madrid with only one game remaining, and end Getafe’s European hopes.

Jan Oblak is also on course to win his third-straight Zamora Trophy for the League’s best goalkeeper after saving Faycal Fajr’s penalty in the second half and conceding just 20 goals throughout the campaign – three less than Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The victory also came just four days before the Europa League Final, which they will contest against Olympique Marseille in Lyon.

“We’ll keep an eye on Juanfran and [Filipe] Luis, who keep growing,” Simeone – who has yet to concede a goal in 13 managerial meetings with Los Azulones – said after the game.

“The others who came in played well too. I leave here with a good feeling because the team put the Final behind them and respected our ethos of going game by game.”
