Barcelona have been named as the strongest brand in world football after a recent study.
Brand Finance – a British-based independent business valuation consultancy – found that the club’s success on the pitch, added to its popularity in emerging football markets in the Far East plus the United States, saw it leapfrog Real Madrid (96.2) with a ranking of 96.6.
Barca’s increased ability to tie up lucrative sponsorship agreements has seen the La Liga champions go to the top of world football’s commercial powerhouses.
However, both the Catalans and Madrid lag behind Manchester United in value, with the Premier League giants worth €1,551m – at least €300m more than the Spanish duo.
