Barcelona are still combing the market for a left centre-back and the latest one to come under scrutiny is Sevilla’s Clement Lenglet.
According to Mundo Deportivo, technical secretary Robert Fernandez and his assistant Urbano Ortega were at the Sanchez Pizjuan for the game between the two clubs in midweek, where they ran the rule over the Frenchman.
The possible departure of Samuel Umtiti in the summer has caused the Catalans to put in a contingency plan, and Lenglet fits the requirements of a defender to compliment Gerard Pique – one that likes to bring the ball out defence, play a high line, and is very quick.
Umiti’s buyout clause with Barca is €60m, making him an attractive proposition for some of Europe’s other top clubs at today’s prices, but with 22-year-old Lenglet’s termination clause exactly half of that he could replace his compratriot and still leave money in the coffers.
Clement joined the Andalusians from Nancy in January 2017 for a reporter €5m.
