Leganes have confirmed that Coach Asier Garitano will leave the club at the end of the season.
Leganes thanked Garitano for his ’commitment, honesty and ability to tie in with both values of the club and their fans, as with those of the entire city’ in a statement on their official website, while praising him for an ‘unforgettable’ five years at the helm.
The Basque will be given the chance to say goodbye at a Press conference on Wednesday and when the club host Real Betis in their final match of the season on May 19.
Garitano took charge of Los Pepineros in 2013 and went on to guide them from Segunda B – the third tier of Spanish football – to La Liga for the first time ever.
Not only did Lega avoid relegation in both of their top-flight campaigns under his watch, but the 48-year-old also took them to the Copa del Rey semi-finals, eliminating Real Madrid on the way.
Garitano is not expected to have a shortage of suitors, with Real Sociedad, Espanyol and Sevilla looking for new Coaches and Athletic Bilbao likely to dispense with Jose Angel Ziganda.
