Girona Coach Pablo Machin has played down his side’s hopes of a European qualification spot and insisted ‘Sevilla are favourites for seventh’.
The Catalan club lie three points behind Sevilla with three rounds of matches remaining, while they also sit one point behind Getafe, in eighth.
“Sevilla are the favourites for the European place,” Machin told reporters ahead of his side’s meeting with Eibar on Saturday, as cited by Marca.
“Firstly, they are the team in the European position. Secondly, we are assuming they will not beat Real Madrid, and they did last year. And finally, because of their name and institution – they should be there.
“I do not want to speak about anything with us beyond this game with Eibar, no talk or nine points from nine or three wins from three.
“Firstly, we must beat Eibar and we need extra support from the Montilivi to get us closer to victory and we want to beat them because our game at their stadium was one of our worst this season.
“They are intense and take that all over the pitch, it will be tough.”
