Diego Simeone has hailed the ‘fury and intensity’ of Atletico Madrid matchwinner Diego Costa in the Europa League semi-final.
The Spain international netted the only goal of the game as Los Rojiblancos advanced to the Europa League final, where they will now face Marseille.
“It was for nights like this that Costa joined us,” Simeone told reporters in his post-match press conference.
“He provided the fury and intensity that we needed, to be able to force opposition players into mistakes and assist his other teammates.
“We played a strong game, we suffocated their counter attacks and while we suffered a bit, we also missed chances too.
“This success is due to loyalty, not from just me and my players but also the staff and volunteers who work so hard and loyally.
“This is an important step for another title but we know Marseille are a very difficult team and it will require a massive effort in order to triumph in the final.”
