‘Bayern much stronger than Madrid…’

Former Bayern Munich and Real Madrid midfielder Paul Breitner believes the German champions are ‘stronger’ due to Madrid’s defence.

The former Germany international believes Bayern ‘should have won 6-2’ in the first leg of last week’s Champions League semi-final first leg, in which Madrid triumphed 2-1.

“Madrid’s main problem is in their defence,” Breitner told Diario AS.

“I do not understand why people believe Madrid are stronger than Bayern are because in the first leg they were not, and Bayern should have won 6-2.

“Bayern created five very good chances in the final stages of the match with lots of crosses and shots being blocked out by last-ditch tackles and an element of luck.

“Everyone appreciates Madrid’s organisation in their midfield and their danger of having Cristiano Ronaldo in attack but Bayern can still progress.

“Lewandowski? He did not have a good day (in the first leg) but has enough quality to play a very good game.”
