‘James was broken’ – Heynckes

Bayern Munich Coach Jupp Heynckes has described how he found a ‘broken’ James Rodriguez when he arrived at the club in October.

The Colombian playmaker joined Bayern on a two-year loan deal from Real Madrid last summer but his current boss confirmed his confidence was at rock bottom in the early months of the season.

“He was broken when I arrived but I took care of him, I had lot of talks with him and step by step he found confidence,” Heynckes told reporters ahead of the two sides meeting in their Champions League semi-final first leg.

“Our fans here, when they see him play football, they enjoy it. Above all he is a player who has fantasy, has an overview.”

However, Madrid counterpart Zinedine Zidane insisted there were ‘no problems’ with the former Porto and Monaco star in the Spanish capita.

“I never had any problems with James,” Zidane insisted.

“He just wanted to play more and I understood. This year will be the same – there are important players but they have to sit on the bench. This is the most difficult part of being a Coach.”
