Arias: Sevilla must stay united

Sevilla sporting director Oscar Arias insists the club ‘must remain united’ as questions continue over his and Coach Vincenzo Montella’s future.

The club’s 5-0 Copa del Rey final defeat to Barcelona has brought renewed demands for the two to step down from Los Rojiblancos, who lie seventh in La Liga and are out of Europe.

“We are all very disappointed as we threw away a lot of hard work in a poor match,” Arias told Radio Marca on Monday.

“We now have to analyse what went wrong because we have not been able to showcase our abilities and this is a big let down for us and all our fans.

“When you play against teams like Barcelona, Bayern Munich or Manchester United, these sorts of results can happen and it highlights how good our results in other cup games this season have been.

“The future for me and the Coach? We must not react strongly to an individual game and yes we have struggled in the league but in the cups we have had fantastic moments and results.

“We must now close ranks and show unity as we have five league games remaining and we must work to meet our objectives, now is not the time for division.

“I have a contract at this club that I am willing to honour and if we qualify for European competition, that represents a strong season for us.”
