Bartomeu: World’s best won, Iniesta…

Barcelona patron Josep Maria Bartomeu felt ‘the best team in the world’ won the Copa del Rey and suggested Andres Iniesta could yet stay at the club.

“It was a great match, with a great result,” he said after the Catalans’ 5-0 demolition of Sevilla in the Final on Saturday.

“it’s been a good Cup for us, our fourth in a row and our 30th in total. We saw the best team in the world win.

“Sevilla were worthy opponents, but we were very superior. It’s been a successful era for us.

“La Liga? It’s still not ours mathematically. We’ll enjoy the Copa today because we came from a bad result in the Champions League, but the team redeemed themselves.

“I hope we can celebrate the double next week, but we still have to sweat a little more. For now, I rate our season as good to notable.

“If the team win the League, we’ll be talking about an excellent one, but we still have to play for it and prudence is always very important in football.

“We’ll enjoy this. We really like this competition and there’s a reason why we’re called the King of Copas.

“I’d like us to win the League as soon as possible. We’ll talk about all this next week. Before I finish, I want to congratulate the fans and highlight the good relationship between the two sets of suppoerts because they showed themselves to be exemplary.

“Iniesta? We’ve seen him at his best for a long time. He’s ery happy with this trophy. Iniesta marks an era at our club – the era of Don Andres.

“I like him because when he goes off, he’s applauded by the whole stadium. He once more showed how he plays and how he makes us enjoy his game.

“Barca are the team of his life. He’s given everything and also to the club. He has offers, but you’ll have to ask him about his future.

“He has a lifetime contract here, and he’ll end it whenever he wants.”
