Porto want Casillas to renew

FC Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa wants out-of-contract goalkeeper Iker Casillas to remain at the club beyond the current season.

The 36-year-old’s deal with the current Portuguese league leaders expires at the end of June but it is reported he will have to take a pay cut if he is to remain beyond the current season.

“Of course, we want Casillas to stay with us,” Pinto da Costa is cited as saying by Diario AS.

“We are happy that Iker is at the club, he is a great goalkeeper and a great person, he has demonstrated that he is a major player for us.

“I cannot guarantee that he would stay, but I would like it if he did.”

The report in AS adds that there is interest from America, the UAE, China and Mexico in the former Real Madrid goalkeeper, but he has no intention of leaving Europe.
