Trejo confident on Rayo promotion

Rayo Vallecano forward Oscar Trejo is increasingly hopeful his side and former club Sporting Gijon will win automatic promotion.

The Argentine forward joined the Madrid-based club at the start of the season after four years in France with Toulouse.

Rayo and Sporting occupy the top two spots in La Liga 123 and both are five points clear of third-placed Huesca, with seven games of the season remaining.

“My son has now gone to see me play in two games and I have scored in both,” Trejo told the Tiempo de Juego programme on Cadena Cope.

When asked why his son had not been to more games, the player replied: “Because he’s only one month old!

“I believe Sporting and us (Rayo) are in good positions to win promotion and that would be something I would like because of my situation.

“We are not looking at the calendar or our fixtures run-in, we are taking things week by week.

“My father gave me a book of motivation and now I have an entire page of it tattooed on my thigh.”
