‘Las Palmas not good enough’

Paco Jemez admits Las Palmas ‘lack’ the quality to compete in La Liga after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad inched them nearer to relegation.

Mikel Oyarzabal’s first-half finish for managerless La Real condemned Las Palmas to a sixth defeat in seven matches and left them 10 points adrift of salvation.

“We lack footballing resources, we’re competing with what we have, but this translates into a lack of goals and mistakes at the back,” the Coach said after the game.

“However, in terms of our execution and sacrifice, we can’t be criticised for anything. We find it very difficult to get our hands on teams, and that creates impotence because our players are running, fighting and trying to push on.

“Still, things can change and it’s not impossible. We’ll keep fighting and each player is going to leave everything they have behind, which at the moment isn’t much, but we will nonetheless.

“My players haven’t dropped their shoulders at any moment. We’re not going to throw in the towel.

“People can say we’re very bad, and they may be right, but we’re going to keep fighting, although we’re realistic with the situation, which doesn’t seem like changing.

“If we go down, we must do so with the most dignity possible and ours heads held high, so that our fans can’t criticise us for a lack of effort, sacrifice or professionalism.”
