Seedorf finally gets his win

Clarence Seedorf finally got his first win as Deportivo La Coruna boss, leading them to a 2-0 victory over Malaga on Friday.

The win was especially significant as it ended Depor’s worst-ever run of seven games without a victory at Riazor, although Seedorf’s side remain eight points adrift of safety with only seven games left.

“We’re clearly very happy because our hard work has finally led us to a win,” he said after the game.

“Without a win, it was difficult to say that our hard work would be rewarded, but this group have worked in an exemplary way while I’ve been here.

“The atmosphere is happy in the dressing room, but the players have a lot of anger inside them still because we want more and we think this had to have happened much earlier.

“The road doesn’t end for us today, rather I think it starts today, with our convictions. After we went 1-0 down, we stopped playing and it seemed like only 10 minutes were left, even though there were 70.

“There were too many things that weren’t right, we had a blockage and were playing with only a bit of courage. There was then a change of attitude in the second half.

“Malaga? For the value of their players, they shouldn’t be where they are. Do I believe in survival? Now more than ever.”
