‘Roma deserved a penalty,’ insists Dzeko

Roma striker Edin Dzeko believes his side should have had a penalty awarded in their defeat in Barcelona and described 4-1 as ‘very harsh’.

The Serie A side were left to bemoan individual mistakes – including two own goals – and perceived injustice from the officials during the clash at the Camp Nou.

“From the first minute we tried to play our usual way, pressing high, even if we know they are a very strong side,” Dzeko explained to Mediaset Premium.

“it’s a pity, because 4-1 is very harsh. Basically, three of them were own goals. If the penalty on me had been given in the opening minutes, that could’ve changed the game, whether we converted it or not.

“The referee should’ve had the courage to award a penalty against Barcelona at Camp Nou, because we deserve to be here and he has to treat us equally.

“Barcelona are a stronger team, we all know that. I think 3-1 would’ve been fair, but if you make this many mistakes then Barcelona will punish you.

“We begin again from Fiorentina, as if we want to play in the Champions League again next season, we need to finish in the top four in Serie A.”
