Report: Bale to lead summer Madrid sale

Gareth Bale is set to lead a summer clear-out of Real Madrid’s squad with the futures of Isco and Matteo Kovacic also in question, say reports in Spain.

Diario AS states the Welshman is ‘very likely’ to depart the European champions in the close season, with Manchester United set to reignite their interest.

The 28-year-old could still command a fee close to €100m and the outlet continues that big exits in terms of transfer fees and wages are crucial for Madrid to reinvest.

An exit for Isco ‘cannot be ruled out’ despite the playmaker’s form this season, which included a hat-trick in Spain’s 6-1 victory over Argentina on Tuesday.

Matteo Kovacic is another first-team squad member who may be allowed to leave, should Milanese duo Milan and Inter ‘act upon their strong interest’ in the Croatian.

The futures of Dani Ceballos, Marcos Llorente, Jesus Vallejo, Borja Mayoral and Achraf Hakimi are also uncertain, with permanent or temporary exits ‘expected for most of them’.
