‘Spain brimming with WC fever’

Saul Niguez claims Spain are ‘brimming’ with World Cup fever and warns his teammates Angel Correa ‘can do his thing at any moment’ for Argentina.

Spain kicked off their World Cup preparations with a 1-1 draw in Germany on Friday, and Saul felt his country had ‘room for improvement’ going into their friendly against Argentina on Tuesday evening.

“Lopetegui and drawing with Germany? We had a very good qualifying campaign,” the Atletico Madrid midfielder said at a Press conference.

“The team did well, but we have room for improvement and time to prepare. This national team is brimming with enthusiasm.

“Shots from outside the box? Maybe shooting from distance isn’t what we’re best at, but it also depends on the match. I think width is what we’re best at using.

“Rodri:? I’m lucky to know about the Under 21s. I’m happy for him, he’s having a great season with Villarreal.

“Messi or no Messi? What we’re focused on is whether all of us are fit and aren’t carrying any injuries.

“Argentina have a great team. If Messi doesn’t play, Correa will, and he can do his thing at any moment. We have to be careful against any of [their attackers].”
