‘Spain believe in World Cup’

Sergio Ramos warned Spain’s rivals ‘we believe in this team, generation and what we’re doing on the pitch’ after Friday’s 1-1 draw with Germany.

“It was a great match for football lovers,” the defender said after the game.

“We had a very complete first half but with plenty of wear and tear because they demanded it.

“They’re the world champions and one of the favourites to win the World Cup.

“Very good first 30 minutes? That’s the way forward. We believe in this team, in this generation of players and what we’re doing on the pitch.

“We did many things very well and that’s the line to follow. Playing my 150th match? If we keep going like this, facing our opponents with the utmost respect, we’ll never have any problems vying for trophies.

“You can sense the great national team we have, but you can’t beat anyone with just a badge.

“We have a long way to go and we’ll try to do well in Russia. Messi’s Argentina? They’re another very good team, also with aspirations of winning the World Cup.

“Facing potential rivals like them will help us a lot at the World Cup. It’s good for us and the national teams that are facing us. They’re another national team to beat.

“Costa and the Madrid derby? We’re very good friends and we have a great relationship, but in the derby, if anyone has to bite, they will.

“Surpassing Casillas in caps? Iker’s shaking already, but his number is hard to beat. It’s a source of pride to reach him and I’m not going to give up now.”
