Low: Spain on Germany’s level

Joachim Low believes Spain were ‘on par’ with Germany and will have ‘an important role to play’ at the World Cup after Friday’s 1-1 draw.

“Both teams played very well, it was a great test against a team on par with us,” the Coach said after the game.

“Both teams wanted to attack, pressing each other. They made it hard for us to play at times, but we took risks and I can draw good conclusions from that.

“I’m very happy with our high level of performance. Anyone who thinks it’s easy to beat another World Cup team is wrong.

“Spain and their club teams play at the highest level in Europe, and you can tell that their players have been playing together for a long time, with automatisms that work perfectly.

“They respond to pressure with calmness and tranquillity, plus they know how to play very good football. They’ll have an important role to play at the World Cup.

“I expected a match that left positive feelings because we’ve known how Spain play for years and it’s not easy to avoid their attacks or score a beautiful goal like they did.

“You can’t defend against them perfectly. We didn’t attack very well in the first half, but we took risks and it was worth it.”
