Ter Stegen hopes for Iniesta stay

Marc-Andre ter Stegen has urged Andres Iniesta to turn down a lucrative switch to China and stay at Barcelona for a few more years.

“Iniesta? Everyone at the club hopes that he stays at Barca,” said the goalkeeper after the Catalans’ 2-0 win against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

“We’d like it if he stayed with us until the end of the season and for the years he still has ahead of him.

“It’s a personal decision, even though he’s a very important player for the club, as well as being a great person.

“We had a very good first half, even though we lost some concentration in the second and let them get closer to our goal. Still, the important thing is that we won.

“It was a complicated game, but we picked up more points and won with our quality, which also resulted in no goals being conceded.

“Zamora Trophy? I’m not thinking about it. We all have a job to do as a team and we can only win as a team. Only after that can individual prizes be discussed.

“We still have some tough games coming up, such as against Roma in the Champions League, which is a great opportunity for us to reach the semi-finals, but the key is to keep winning and we’re going in the right direction.”
