Atletico Madrid have confirmed defender Filipe Luis has suffered a fractured fibula which looks likely to rule him out for the rest of the season.
The Brazilian defender was stretchered off just after the hour mark in Thursday’s 5-1 victory at Lokomotiv Moscow in the Europa League.
The full-back underwent radiological tests as soon as he returned to Madrid with the worst fears concerned, and now he also looks set to miss the World Cup.
The 32-year-old is in his second stint at Atleti having re-joined the club from Chelsea in 2015, with Sime Vrsaljko or Lucas Hernandez set to deputise in his absence.
