Ziganda targets Athletic ‘special night’

Athletic Bilbao Coach Jose Angel Ziganda is hopeful of a ‘great night’ at home to Marseille in the Europa League tonight.

The Basque giants trail 3-1 from last week’s first leg but Ziganda remains hopeful his side have a good chance of reaching the last eight, particularly with home fans behind them.

“We want to have a great night,” Ziganda told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

“At the San Mames there will be a great atmosphere, with a party mood and a lot of bouncing and we want this to be one of the great nights in the stadium.

“It will be a difficult match for sure, but with the support of our fans we can do it – we want to take them with us and be there with them.

“Our mood is good, our players are not tired and after the weekend win over Leganes we have momentum going into this crucial night.

“We want Marseille to suffer, to have a long, tough game and I even spent an hour walking on the static bike yesterday, attempting to formulate a game plan.

“They missed a chance to make it 4-1 in the first leg and we believe that moment may cost them as now we have a deficit which we believe we can overcome.”
