Barcelona Coach Ernesto Valverde has praised a ‘brave’ Andre Gomes for discussing his psychological state and promised to help.
The Portuguese international explained how he was ‘ashamed to leave the house’ due to the level of his performances earlier this week.
“Andre was very brave to admit to his feelings, particularly in the public nature in which he did,” Valverde told reporters on Tuesday.
“Many people within football are careful when talking about these issues as you do not want to come across as insecure or having weaknesses, so we must acknowledge this.
“The truth is this is something which has happened to a lot of us and this is something he must tackle head-on with the help of those around him.
“Andre has many qualities and is available for selection, there is no reason why he should not be.
“I know my playing staff and Andre is someone I am close to, and it is also my position to help him both on a professional and personal level.
“It is our duty to help and we will help.”
