Sergio Canales must choose between extending his contract with Real Sociedad or joining Real Betis, according to reports in the Spanish press.

The 27-year-old is out of contract at La Real this summer and has held talks with Betis over a possible move but has also begun negotiations to renew his current deal.

The winger initially joined the Basque club in January 2014 from Valencia in a €4m deal but is yet to commit to a new contract at the Anoeta.

However, the former Real Madrid player had started only 29 league matches in the past two-and-a-half seasons, failing to secure a run of sustained matches in Eusebio Sacristan’s side.

El Desmarque report Canales as wanting a long-term commitment to a club and that is more likely to persuade him to stay at Real Sociedad rather than move south to Betis.
