Atleti ease to comfortable Lokomotiv win

Atletico Madrid took a huge step towards the Europa League quarter finals with a comfortable 3-0 win over Lokomotiv Moscow on Thursday.

Saul Niguez, Diego Costa and Koke (pictured) were all on target for Diego Simeone’s side, who also won the competition in 2010 and 2012.

The hosts opened the scoring midway through the first half courtesy of Saul’s 30-yard strike which flew into the top corner of the net, to add to his repertoire of long-range goals.

Costa added the second shortly after the break after picking up on a rebound from Antoine Griezmann’s initial effort – Costa’s sixth goal in 12 appearances since his return.

Koke added a third after Costa and Griezmann had both been substituted off with Sunday’s league game with Celta Vigo in mind.

Lokomotiv are seven points clear at the top of the Russian Premier League, but now face a substantial deficit going into next week's return leg.
