Setien not focused on Europa

Real Betis Coach Quique Setien has downplayed suggestions his side will qualify for European football next season.

Los Verdiblancos lie 10th in the standings and three points off seventh-placed Girona, who currently occupy the remaining Europa League position in the league.

“Europe is a possibility for us but within the first season it is tough to maintain that level,” Setien told reporters, as cited by ABC de Sevilla.

“It will be difficult for us to keep players after this season – I am pleased that they are standing out of course, but it leads other clubs to sit up and take interest.

“Our argument will be try to convince them to stay, to illustrate their importance and development, and what we can offer them, but also to persuade our targets to come here also.

“We are a stronger team now than we were a year ago and I think we are doing a lot of things well, but we must work to eradicate our errors.”
