Vinicius ‘making mistakes’ – Diego

Former Atletico Madrid playmaker Diego insists Flamengo must help future Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior, who is ‘making mistakes’.

The 18-year-old forward will join Madrid in June 2018 in a fee in the region of €45m and has faced criticism in Brazil for his exuberant goal celebrations and style of play.

“He is going through an important stage in his career and it is not always easy,” Diego is cited as saying by Diario AS.

“Vinicius is strong and he has his head in the right place but we must all understand he is making mistakes, but this is natural and we must help him.

“He is receiving a lot of attention which makes things difficult but his style of play – his skill, his daring, his flair – only adds to this, and he did not bring it upon himself.

“Sometimes we expect too much of him, at such a young age, and we must not become frustrated when he does not meet these heightened expectations constantly.”
