Zidane hails ‘perfect’ Madrid

Zinedine Zidane hailed Real Madrid for a ‘perfect’ display against Paris Saint-Germain, singling out Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez as star performers.

“What I liked most? Our approach went well,” the Coach said after the game.

“We were sincere from the start, we went forward, pressing. We had the perfect match. Everyone in the squad can play and I’m happy.

“We had a good game, even with the changes, and that’s what matters for us. We deserved to reach the quarter-finals.

“Lucas and Asensio? Ultimately, with them two, it was important to have two lines of four, defending well, especially the players out wide.

“Lucas is in very good form, Marco too. Everyone is, but they are in particular. I can’t say anymore than that. I have to choose an XI every three days and our plan was this.

“My influence? It’s the same as ever. I’m here to put in and take out players, plus prepare for matches well.

“Tactically we had the match we hoped for, and ultimately it’s the players who win games. That’s the key. We have belief in what we do.

“It’is true that we’ve had some bad times in the League and Copa, but that’s part of football. It’s difficult to always maintain your level.

“You have to accept those bad times and keep working hard. You can’t always win everything. We’ll try to play the same as we did here against Eibar.

“Surprised by PSG? I don’t think they were that bad. They did very well at the Bernabeu, at home not so much, but it’s also because we did very well. Maybe the red changed things.

“Bale and BBC? What matters are all the players. I have respect for everyone here and Gareth too.

“He didn’t start either leg, but he’s a difference-maker and he’ll continue to be. We have lots of games coming up and he’ll have opportunities if he’s ready to take them.”
