Official: Levante sack Muniz

Levante have sacked Coach Juan Muniz after their last-gasp draw with Espanyol on Sunday.

Levante appeared to be heading for their first League win since November yet ended up being held 1-1 by Leo Baptistao’s injury-time goal for Espanyol.

Marca reports the Valencians initially decided to sack Muniz a fortnight ago but was given a stay of execution by sporting director Tito Blanco for their last three games.

However, they yielded just a point, with Levante also losing 2-0 to Real Betis and 1-0 Alaves.

Consquently, Les Granotes will fall into the relegation zone if Las Palmas beat Celta Vigo on Monday.

Replacing Muniz until the end of the season is B-team boss Paco Lopez, a former Levante striker.

The 50-year-old took charge of Levante in the summer of 2016 after their relegation to Segunda and masterminded an instant return to La Liga.
