Ronaldo double downs Getafe

Cristiano Ronaldo reached 30 goals for the season as his brace helped Real Madrid beat 10-man Getafe 3-1 on Saturday.

Ronaldo and Gareth Bale gave Madrid a two-goal cushion at half-time, before Loic Remy was sent off and the Portuguese grabbed his second after Francisco Portillo had pulled one back from the penalty spot.

Los Blancos took no chances over Marcelo, but BBC were all in attendance, while Getafe began life without defender Juan Cala after he completed his move to Chinese side Henan Jianye.

Madrid had won 15 of their last 16 League meetings with their capital rivals but did lose to them on home soil once, albeit back in February 2008.

Despite losing to Espanyol in last-gasp fashion midweek, Madrid showed no side-effects from that hammer blow and took a 24th-minute lead through Bale, who sent in a rebound on the half-volley.

Just before the break, Ronaldo skipped past two Geta defenders, before burying a finish past Vicente Guaita, and they began the second half with a numerical advantage as Remy's elbow into Nacho Fernandez earned him a second yellow.

However, poor officiating threatened to undo Los Merengues' good work. Nacho was wrongly penalised for a foul in the box, despite his foot clearly winning the ball first, and Portillo fired in the penalty.

Ronaldo was neither guilty of being offside or committing an infringement when his back-post header beat Guaita, yet the goal wasn't given.

Nonetheless, the No 7 didn't dwell on the disappointment and promptly powered a header home, this time at the near post.

Madrid's evening was made even better by Marcelo's lively cameo off the bench, while Bale's curler right at the death was unlucky to clip the post.
