Ruben Castro linked to China return

Real Betis fear experienced striker Ruben Castro may leave the club to return to China this week, according to reports in the Spanish press.

The 36-year-old enjoyed a four-month stint at Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng where he scored seven times in 11 appearances, before returning to Spain in November.

However, Castro has started only once since then and has made three substitute appearances due to Sergio Leon’s form and the emergence of Loren Moron, who scored three goals in his first two games.

The forward, originally from Gran Canaria, netted the winning penalty against Leganes last month – his 148th in total for Los Verdiblancos.

The Chinese Super League are said by Estadio Deportivo to have returned for the striker’s signature and a deal could yet go through despite the deadline for Chinese clubs closing on 28 February.
