Lucas Vazquez hailed Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘companionship’ after he let ‘phenomenon’ Karim Benzema score a penalty against Alaves on Saturday.
Ronaldo gave Benzema the chance to finally find the back of the net from the spot in a 4-0 victory, prompting Vazquez - also a goalscorer in the game - to lavish praise on the pair.
“We played with good sensations and scored goals, something that we lacked at the beginning of the season,” he told BeIN Sports after the match.
“Starting at PSG? It wouldn’t be a disappointment if I didn’t. There are great players at Madrid, and it’ll be difficult for Zidane to decide.
“I’ll stick with being at 100 percent for him to decide later. National team? What I want is to do well at Madrid and that it’ll be the Coach who decides.
“I’ve felt better since October/December time, and that’s the line I must follow. Most assists? I’m very happy, the more chances we create, the more goals we score.
“The truth is that we didn’t like the way things were going. We knew about our mistakes, but it’s not worth looking back. We now have to think about being on top.
“Clean sheet? It’s clear that this makes it easier for the team to win. We all did very well from a defensive point of view.
“CR7 letting Benzema take the penalty? Cristiano showed a lot of companionship with Karim, who deserved his goal. I’m happy for Benzema because he’s a phenomenon.
“Minds on Paris? The truth is that until now, we haven’t thought about it much, but now we will.”
