BBC on target in Alaves cruise

BBC were all on target as Real Madrid raced to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Alaves in La Liga on Saturday.

Ronaldo's strike at the end of the first half opened the floodgates for Madrid, with the Portuguese helping himself to a second goal, before Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema rounded off a fifth straight win for Los Blancos.

Marcelo, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Marco Asensio were all injured for the visit of Alaves, while Sergio Ramos was suspended. The Basques, on the other hand, were without top goalscorer Bojan Krkic due to the Barcelona loanee serving a one-match ban.

Los Merengues had won 12 of their 15 previous matches against Alaves in the top flight, with no points dropped since October 2001.

Madrid started strongly and came close through Bale’s overhead kick and Benzema, who slipped during a one-on-one.

However, Alaves – who had won their last three games – had chances of their own.

Alfonso Pedraza’s sliding finish needed to be turned away by Keylor Navas, who then tipped over a near-post strike from Alexis Ruano.

Nonetheless, Ronaldo smacked in Madrid’s 100th goal of the season on the stroke of half-time, before Bale poked home from close range barely a minute after the restart.

Zinedine Zidane’s men were out of sight by the hour, when Ronaldo drilled Lucas Vazquez’s cutback past Fernando Pacheco for his 300th goal in La Liga.

There was just about enough time for Benzema to finish off their opponents after Bale was brought down in the Alaves area, the Frenchman burying the subsequent spot-kick into Pacheco’s bottom-left.
