Villarreal suspend arrested Semedo

Villarreal have suspended Ruben Semedo after the defender was charged with attempted murder.

It comes after Semedo was arrested earlier in the week for allegedly tying up, hitting and holding an individual inside his house in the district of Valencia.

“Villarreal CF want to show their dismay after the serious crimes imputed by the judge of Court Number 6 in Lliria to the player Ruben Semedo,” read a statement.

“Always with due respect for the presumption of innocence, the club have decided to suspend the player without pay until a final resolution is made on the disciplinary case that is currently open.”

The 23-year-old joined Villarreal from Sporting CP last summer for €14m but has played only four League games due to his season being disrupted by injuries and run-ins with the law.
