Zidane: Madrid have ‘more belief’

Zinedine Zidane claims “giving more on the pitch” and “more belief” are behind Real Madrid’s resurgence after their 3-1 win at Leganes.

Goals from Lucas Vazquez, Casemiro and Sergio Ramos on Wednesday evening handed Madrid their fourth straight victory, prompting Zidane to express his delight with their new-found run of form.

“Nothing happens when we score goals. The important thing is to pick up points,” the Coach said after the game.

“It’s one more win, our fourth in a row. It was important to pick up points. Now we’re third and it’s an important result.

“It’s a very good matchday for us. We’re happy with the result and the goals. Now we have to keep going like this.

“Asensio and Vazquez? For me, they’ve always been important. I’m happy for Lucas because he deserves it. He’s a fighter and he wasn’t well before the game.

“He had a great match like Asensio did, but so did everyone overall, including Kovacic, who hasn’t played much lately, yet played phenomenally well.

“We want to keep going like this. We’ve had some difficult times, but we must take advantage so we can keep going.

“No Bale in the XI? I’m happy with him. We must go step by step with him. What we want is for him to get back to his best.

“After that, we’ll see the games that are coming up and how to manage them. We’re doing well and in a good run of form. I’ll be counting on everyone.

“Recovering third place? We always look up the table. It’s crucial for us that we do.

“In order to keep this run going, we have to think and look up the table. We’ve recovered third place, and the idea now is to recover second.

“Similarities between Isco in the past and Asensio this season? They’re here, in a group of 25 players, and they know it’s difficult.

“What matters to me is that they’re very good players and they show it when they play. I have to name a team, an XI.

“The good thing for Isco and Marco is seeing that they’re fine. The important thing is that they’re showing it.

“Comebacks? It involves everyone. We’ve had some difficult times, but now things are going well because we’re doing well.

“We’re confident and we have more belief. Everyone’s giving more on the pitch and ultimately, the sum of that leads to good performances.

“Now things are changing. We must keep believing in what we’re doing. When you show the quality that we’ve been…

“We have to keep this run going and rest as we play at 15:15 [CET] on Saturday, which is a short time to recover, but it is what it is.”
