Rivaldo: Barca will beat Chelsea

Former Barcelona playmaker Rivaldo believes the Catalan giants will progress past a ‘difficult’ Chelsea in the Champions League.

Now 45, the Brazilian won four trophies during his five-year stint at the Camp Nou including two La Liga crowns, but never Europe’s premier club competition.

“Barcelona are the stronger side and are definitely favourites,” Rivaldo is cited as saying by Marca.

“You always have to show a lot of respect towards English sides and the difficulty they pose but ultimately Barca have better players and a better team.”

The Brazilian was then quizzed about his side’s recovery from a 3-1 first leg defeat at Stamford Bridge 18 years ago to ultimately progress 6-4 on aggregate.

“It was a particularly difficult game and the defeat in London made the situation very tough,” he continued.

“I had the chance to make it 4-1 in the second leg with a penalty but couldn’t score…but thankfully we progressed in extra time with two more goals.”
