Marcelo set to miss Leganes trip

Real Madrid defender Marcelo is set to miss Wednesday night’s clash at Leganes after sustaining a muscular injury against Real Betis.

The Brazilian full-back was withdrawn after pulling up early in Sunday’s 5-3 victory in Seville and did not train on Monday, with Spanish media reporting he will undergo tests on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old’s injury is not thought to be serious and his absence from training and the trip to Leganes – in the southern suburbs of Madrid – is thought to be mainly precautionary.

The left-back will join Toni Kroos in missing the clash, although Luka Modric is expected to return to first-team action and Theo Hernandez to deputise for the Brazilian.

Marcelo, who has started 19 league games this season, should be back for the Champions League second leg at Paris Saint-Germain, whom he scored against at the Bernabeu.
