‘Betis have to score four to win’

Joaquin praised Real Betis’ performance in defeat to Real Madrid but admitted they have to ‘score three or four to win.’

Madrid came away from a fantastic game at Benito Villamarin with a 5-3 victory after coming from 2-1 down at half time, and veteran Joaquin acknowledged the visitors’ improvement in the second half.

“We tried to start the second half with the same ideas as the first but Madrid began to press. We knew it’d be difficult and when you give Madrid an opportunity, you see the difference,” he told Movistar, Sevilla ABC reports.

“But I’m happy because I think we played a decent game with our philosophy. We’ve been trying to correct a lot of things all year. We have to score three or four in every game to win and that’s complicated. We have to improve at the back and in many more things.”

Betis remain in contention for a European place even with the defeat but Joaquin declined to single out the Europa League as the team’s aim.

“Our goal is to fight until the end. There are a lot of teams who want to be in Europe. We’re going to be there fighting, that’s the idea,” he added before being questioned about his own form.

“Me? I’m 36. I’d like to be 10 years younger. I have to work hard to be at this level. My dream is intact. I’ll continue as long as I can…then I’ll go home.”
