Ruben Castro linked to China move

Real Betis fear striker Ruben Castro may return to the Chinese Super League before their transfer window closes this month, say reports in Spain.

The window for signing players in China does not close until 28 February – one month later than in Spain – and there is renewed interest in the veteran forward.

The 36-year-old enjoyed a four-month stint at Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng where he scored seven times in 11 appearances, before returning to Spain in November.

However, Castro has started only once since then and has made three substitute appearances due to Sergio Leon’s form and the emergence of Loren Moron, who has scored three goals in his first two games.

The forward, originally from Gran Canaria, netted the winning penalty against Leganes last month – his 148th in total for Los Verdiblancos.

ABC de Sevilla state Betis want the striker to honour his contract through to June 2019 in a squad rotation role, but they fear his head could be turned by ‘renewed Chinese interest’.
